Darth Vader is one of the main antagonists of the Star Wars franchise A legendary former Jedi Knight, he fell to the dark side of the Force after attempting to save his wife Padmé. He is the son of Shmi Skywalker, the father of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, and the grandfather of Ben Solo, as well as the former apprentice of Obi-Wan Kenobi and the third and final apprentice of Emperor Palpatine after Darth Maul and Count Dooku. He was also the former archenemy of his own son Luke Skywalker. After turning to the dark side of the Force, he became known as Darth Vader, a Dark Lord of the Sith and apprentice to Emperor Darth Sidious. As a Sith Lord, Vader turned against his former comrades and hunted the surviving Jedi to near extinction.
