Athena is a character of Saint Seiya. She is the protagonist goddess of the different Saint Seiya series.

Unlike Poseidon or Hades, Athena does not return to Earth by taking on a host, but rather chooses to reincarnate as a human so that she can better understand them and share their emotions. Thus, Saori Kido and Sasha (Saint Seiya ~ The Lost Canvas) are not to be considered as separate from the goddess as Julian Solo and Poseidon might be. They are indeed Athena and the fact that they have an additional name is only due to the chance of circumstances that led them to receive a name from people outside the Sanctuary. This principle also seems to preclude the possibility of a mythological body of Athena remaining, although there is no confirmation of this.

This Cosmos also influences the behavior of animals, and in the manga Saori manipulates Jamian's crows and even manages to turn them against him. In the anime, she repeats this kind of trick by subduing the wolves of Fenrir.

Concerning her defensive powers, Athena uses her Cosmos as a barrier, and in the Hades part she manages to create around her Saints protective bubbles which are strong enough to take Hades' attacks. The Athena of the mythological ages has also left a kekkai in the Sanctuary that envelops the place, thus forbidding to cross the Houses of the Zodiac by teleportation. Gigantomachia adds that this kekkai also hides the Sanctuary from the view of satellites or intruders, and that it reorients people so that it is impossible to arrive by chance in the precincts of this sacred land. In Next Dimension, this kekkai also extends to Yomotsu Hirasaka in order to prevent the Specters from passing through there.
