Monkey D. Luffy is a pirate and the main protagonist of the manga and anime One Piece.

Luffy is the son of the leader of the Revolutionary Army, Monkey D. Dragon, the grandson of the famous Navy hero, Monkey D. Garp, the adopted son of a mountain bandit, Curly Dadan, as well as the adopted brother of the late Portgas D. Ace and Sabo

His greatest dream is to become the Lord of the Pirates by finding the legendary One Piece treasure, hidden somewhere in the world by Gol D. Roger. According to him, this dream is realized by becoming the freest person ever.

He mistakenly ate a Demon Fruit, the Gomu Gomu no Mi, which allows him to be an elastic man, which the Red Crew took from a World Government convoy.[

As the founder and Captain of the Straw Hat Crew, he is the first member to join.

He is also the unwitting founder of the Great Straw Hat Fleet, though he refuses to be its Captain, not wishing to deprive others of their freedom.

Luffy has a worldwide reputation for causing unrest and disasters, even among the 7 Corsair Captains and the Navy, going so far as to challenge two of the Four Emperors (Big Mom and Kaido), as well as committing crimes and actions considered dangerous by the World Government.

He has received the reputation of being "reckless" and "crazy", due to his exploits in the world.

He is also famous for burning the flag of the World Government at Enies Lobby, declaring war on the World Government, before defeating the CP9 there with his crew; hitting a Celestial Dragon at Sabaody; defeated several of the Big 7 Corsairs (Crocodile, Gecko Moria or Doflaming); infiltrated and escaped from Impel Down by causing a gigantic escape (the biggest in the prison's history); and joined the Battle of Marine Ford, on the side of Whitebeard's Crew.

In addition, he is known to be the only pirate to have not only infiltrated all three of the Government's capital facilities, but also to have escaped all three alive.

This history of troublemaking quickly earned Luffy the label of "dangerous element in the future", especially for Admiral Commander-in-Chief Sakazuki, making the Navy one of his greatest enemies. 

His actions, among others, resulted in a current Berry Symbol bounty.gif1,500,000,000.

Having had a bounty of Symbol Berry.gif300,000,000 before his arrival in the Sabaody Archipelago,

Luffy was one of the eleven renowned pirates known as the "Eleven Supernovae", eleven pirates with bounties exceeding Symbol Berry.gif100,000,000 who arrived at Sabaody Archipelago at the same time.

His new bounty acquired after the events of the Whole Cake Island Arc led the press to name him the "Fifth Emperor" of the seas.
